Georgia is state located within the southeastern United States. Food production is essential to the economy of Georgia. The region surrounding Albany within southwest Georgia is a center of pecan production, making the state of Georgia the number one producer of pecans in the globe. Within northeast Georgia, Gainesville is a center of poultry production. Other state products comprise peanuts, soybeans, peaches, corn, rye, cattle, dairy products, hogs, turfgrass, vegetables and tobacco.
Georgia State has a very diverse industrial base. The mineral and timber business have many operations here. In Decatur County, the town of Attapulgus produces a clay material known as palygorskite. It is better known as attapulgite, and provides medical, industrial and cosmetic uses. Other industries comprise apparel and textiles, transportation equipment, electric equipment, chemical products, paper products, food processing and cigarettes.
