Start-up of the forklift industry
Korea’s initial domestic lift truck marketplace was an open-import enterprise. In the 1960’s, Korea Machinery Co. Ltd. began to import assembled forklifts as part of a national equipment expansion venture. Initial product sales of this industrial equipment focused on large business communities, the armed forces and on state-run firms. This eventually led to a merger with Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd. In 1976, the Forklift Division commenced trade operations throughout Korea to overhaul and sell this heavy equipment. By 1978, a lift truck production plant was successfully completed. Continuous technical training became the new focus for enhancing quality and product development.
Propane lift truck effectiveness is relatively impressive as the cylinders containing propane could easily be replaced and the machine could get back to work without losing much "downtime". It is not like the electric forklift where spare batteries should be acquired to be used while the original battery could take up to 8 hours of cooling time and 8 hours of charging time depending on the model.
Safety
Because the fuel system of the propane lift truck is sealed; it is far safer to operate than various models of lift truck. The fuel cylinders are sealed to guarantee optimum safety and must follow strict national code specialization. Propane gas even operates with less energy than CNG gas, so, if any accident occurs, there is a system where the fuel is turned off. This greatly minimizes the probable risk and damage that can take place. Refilling options are also beneficial for the operator. If they would rather refuel somewhere else, the cylinders could be transported to a refilling centre. If the company chooses, the refilling could be done on site instead.
