There are various times where the skid-steer loader can be used rather than a big excavator on the jobsite for digging holes from the inside. To start, the loader digs a ramp to be used to excavate the material out of the hole. As the excavation deepens, the machine reshapes the ramp making it steeper and longer. This is a very useful technique for digging below a building where there is not sufficient overhead clearance for the boom of a large excavator. For example, this is a common situation when digging a basement below an existing home or building.

Gehl articulated loaders have been manufactured to suit just about every situation. They offer optimal maneuverability and great traction thanks to a heavy-duty oscillating joint which provides 45-degree revolving angles right and left, with 10 degrees of oscillating in both directions. Access is granted to tight and confined spaces by narrow machine widths. Most skid-steer loaders with equivalent operating capacities are unable to compete. The bucket and tires on the Gehl equipment follow a stable turn radius as well. This means the back tires of the loader follow the course of the front tires.
The articulated loaders features hydraulic power and precision that come with all of the Gehl machinery. Lift arm and bucket float features allow these machines to be able to perform light scraping and rearward leveling actions. Flat-face couplers, along with the two easily reachable auxiliary hydraulic lines power many tools and make changing the accessories a simple task to complete.
